Where Heritage Takes Wing

Our Story

Rooted in Wales

Rhos Ddu means "Black Meadow" in Welsh.  The name honors a family farm in Wales and the heritage that continues to shape my life here in New York.

My grandfather, Griffith Robert -my Taid- came from Anglesey to New York in 1912.  Our family tells the story of how he exchanged a ticket on the Titanic for an earlier March crossing so he could arrive in time for spring planting. That decision became part of our family history, along with his determination to work with the seasons and care for the land.

A Farm of Our Own

Rhos Ddu was established in 2021, carrying that heritage into our farm in the Ballston Spa area.  Gardens, flowers, and animals all have a place here, but peafowl have become a particular passion.

There is joy in their extraordinary colors, their individual personalities, and the arrival of each new chick. There is responsibility, too - in providing thoughtful care and helping new owners prepare to welcome these birds into their own lives.

Faith, Care & Possibility

Faith shapes how we approach the farm.  We see caring for the land and animals as both a privilege and a responsibility, and we believe there is beauty in the everyday work: a flower opening, an egg beginning to hatch, or a feather catching the light.

Through Rhos Ddu, our hope is to share some of that wonder with you - and carry a little of our heritage forward.
